The difference between dry and damaged hair
I would like to try and help some of you as much as I can with this post. Only so much can be done online. For the best advice you will ever get, speak to your stylist! They will be able to tell you if your hair is predominantly dry or is damaged.
Hair can be dry naturally, through improper product use or even the weather! Heat styling never helps the dry hair issue. Sorry to break that news to you.
To damage something, anything, you must do something to it. In hair terms, this could be using chemicals (permanent waving or straightening), over colouring your hair or excessive heat styling, especially if you have naturally dry hair.
Usually, dry hair turns into damaged hair. Damaged hair has lost its strength. It becomes fine and brittle on the ends. A sign of this could be hair that feels dense at the root and then once put into a ponytail, gets very fine towards the ends. Split ends are also a sign of hair that is damaged. The process to help this would be to treat the damage first, then once it has regained the strength, keep on top of the dry hair by replenishing moisture. Regular trims can help prevent dry hair turning into damaged hair.
